Classical heat (mass) transport theory is based on the local equilibriumassumption and is valid when the characteristic space and time scales of theprocess significantly exceed the mean free path and mean free time of energy(mass)carriers.However, many practically important processes occur onultrashort space and/or time scales and cannot described by the classical Fourier(Fick)law.In this presentation we give short review of the phenomenologicamodels which can be used to describes heat (mass) transfer of ultrashort spaceand time scales.

Professor Dr, Sergey Sobolev is the Head of the Nonequilibrium ProcessesGroup of the Theoretical Department of the Federal Research Center ofProblems of Chemical Physics and Medicinal Chemistry, Russian Academy ofSciences. The main scientific interests include the local nonequilibriumtransport theory and its application to ultrashort space and time scales processes.
